In "Moon Over Point Place (1)," the season 2 finale of That 70's Show, Eric and Donna's relationship is tested when Donna receives an acceptance letter to study in California for the summer. Meanwhile, Kelso and Fez attempt to make some quick cash by working as mall Santas, but things don't go as planned when Fez falls asleep on the job. Jackie and Hyde's budding romance is also put to the test when Jackie's father returns to town and forbids her from seeing him.
The episode opens with Eric and Donna in the basement, going through old yearbooks and reminiscing about their high school days. Donna confesses that she applied to study abroad in California for the summer, and Eric is initially supportive – until he realizes that it means she'll be gone for three months. They argue about the state of their relationship, with Eric feeling like Donna doesn't appreciate him and Donna feeling like Eric takes her for granted. They eventually make up and decide to enjoy the time they have left together before she leaves.
Meanwhile, Kelso and Fez are desperate for cash and decide to work as mall Santas for the holiday season. Fez is initially excited about the job, but quickly becomes disillusioned when he realizes how boring it is. Kelso, on the other hand, develops a bit of a power trip and starts bossing around the other elves. Their scheme hits a snag when Fez falls asleep in the middle of a shift and a group of kids catch him snoring. They try to cover up the incident, but end up making things worse when they accidentally lock themselves in the mall overnight.
Elsewhere, Jackie and Hyde are enjoying their new romance, but things get complicated when Jackie's father comes to town. He's a strict, conservative businessman who doesn't approve of Hyde's bad boy image, and forbids Jackie from seeing him. Jackie is torn between her loyalty to her father and her feelings for Hyde, while Hyde struggles to figure out what kind of relationship he wants with Jackie.
The episode ends on a cliffhanger, with Fez and Kelso still trapped in the mall and Jackie defying her father's wishes to see Hyde. It sets up plenty of drama for the season 3 premiere, which promises to be just as entertaining and hilarious as the rest of the series.
