In episode 1 of The Capture, entitled "What Happens in Helmand," viewers are introduced to British soldier Shaun Emery (Callum Turner), who is released from prison after serving time for war crimes in Afghanistan. The footage is taken from a camera located near the scene of the crime and quickly goes viral on social media, leading to widespread outrage from the public and calls for Shaun to be punished. However, things take a turn when Shaun's lawyer, Hannah Roberts (Laura Haddock), discovers that the footage has been tampered with.
As Hannah delves deeper into the case, she uncovers a complex web of lies and deceit involving the military, the police, and the intelligence services. Meanwhile, Shaun becomes increasingly convinced that he is being set up, and begins to investigate the people behind the conspiracy against him.
The episode sets the stage for a tense and suspenseful thriller, as viewers are drawn into a world of intrigue and espionage where nothing is as it seems. With strong performances from the lead actors and a tightly woven plot, "What Happens in Helmand" proves to be an excellent start to what promises to be an addictive and compelling series.
