The Coroner is a British dramatic television series that follows the life and cases of a high-flying solicitor who decides to quit her job and move to the coast to work as a coroner. Season 2 Episode 4 of The Coroner is entitled "The Beast of Lighthaven" and it is an enthralling episode that follows the coroner, Jane Kennedy, and her team as they investigate mysterious deaths in a small coastal town of Lighthaven.
The episode begins with the discovery of a dead body on the beach, and while investigating this death, Jane and her team unearth another body that has been buried in a shallow grave. The second body is of a local fisherman, who was thought to have died from a boat accident, two years before. Upon further examination, it becomes apparent that both of these deaths are linked, and there could be a serial killer at large in Lighthaven.
As the investigation deepens, Jane and her team discover that the deceased fisherman was part of a team of people who were hired to catch and kill a rare beast, which they believed was responsible for killing their livestock and pets. The beast had evaded capture for a long time, and the hunting had caused a great deal of turbulence in the community.
Meanwhile, the second body that was found on the beach is identified as a local pub owner Richard Whitman, who was known for his bad history with women. Some of the people in the community, including Richard's ex-girlfriend, blame him for the killing of the beast, which had become a legend in the town. Richard had disappeared two years ago, at the same time the fisherman supposedly died in the boat accident.
Jane and her team start to dig into Richard's past and discover that he had been involved in a lot of criminal activities, including fraud and extortion. They begin to wonder if Richard's past crimes had caught up with him, or if he was possibly the killer of the rare beast.
As the investigation unravels, Jane and her team find more clues and motives that lead to several suspects. They uncover secrets and lies within the community, and discover that the villagers are not as innocent as they initially appeared.
