The Equalizer season 2 episode 1, titled "Aftermath," follows the story of Robyn McCall, a single mother with a hidden talent for problem-solving. After quitting her job as an intelligence operative, McCall becomes a vigilante, using her skills to help people who are unable to seek justice through traditional means. In "Aftermath," McCall comes to the aid of a woman named Delilah who is seeking revenge for the murder of her husband.

The episode begins with McCall returning to her New York City home after a trip abroad. She's greeted by her teenage daughter, Delilah, who has been living alone in the family's apartment for the summer. Delilah reveals that she's been working at a local diner and has saved enough money to buy herself a laptop for school. McCall is proud of her daughter's independence but cautions her about the dangers of the city.

The next day, McCall meets with her former colleague, William Bishop, at a local diner. Bishop tells her about the recent murder of a man named Evan Dunbar, who was a whistleblower for a large pharmaceutical company. Dunbar had been working on a case against the company, but before he could testify, he was killed in a hit-and-run accident. The police have ruled his death accidental, but Bishop suspects foul play.

As McCall investigates Dunbar's death, she meets his widow, Sarah, who is convinced that her husband was murdered. Sarah tells McCall that her husband's laptop, which had all his research and evidence against the pharmaceutical company, is missing. Sarah refutes the police’s claim that her husband’s death was an accident and firmly believes that somebody killed her husband to keep him quiet.

McCall agrees to take on the case and begins her search for the missing laptop. Her investigation takes her to the pharmaceutical company's headquarters, where she meets with Dunbar's former colleague, Dr. Gabrielle Carter. Gabrielle reveals that she and Dunbar had been working together on the case and that she had a copy of his research on her own laptop. She agrees to give McCall the laptop's location in exchange for protection.

McCall retrieves the laptop but discovers that the file containing Dunbar's research has been deleted. Desperate to find the evidence and bring justice to Dunbar's untimely death, McCall sets out to retrieve the deleted file. With the help of her contacts, McCall finds the person who deleted the file, an IT employee at the pharmaceutical company. She confronts him, and he confesses to being paid by the company to delete the file.

Armed with the evidence, McCall and Bishop approach the district attorney with Dunbar's case. Despite the attorney's initial reluctance, McCall and Bishop convince him to take on the case, and justice is served for Dunbar and his family.

In addition to the main case, the episode also explores McCall's relationship with her teenage daughter, Delilah. Throughout the episode, Delilah expresses her desire to become more involved in her mother's work and help people in need. McCall is reluctant to involve her daughter but ultimately sees the value in teaching her how to use her talents for good.

In conclusion, "Aftermath" is a thrilling and emotional episode that showcases the complexity of McCall's character and the importance of justice. It sets the tone for a promising second season which explores the emotional rollercoaster of being a vigilante while juggling family and loved ones.
