In The Knick season 2 episode 2, titled "You're No Rose," viewers are reintroduced to the staff at The Knickerbocker Hospital in New York City in 1901. The episode picks up where the last one left off, with Dr. Thackery in rehab and struggling to come to terms with his addiction to cocaine. As he tries to adjust to life without the drug, his colleagues at The Knick are forced to deal with their own issues.

As the episode begins, Cornelia, the hospital's administrator, is seen meeting with her husband, Phillip, who works for the city's health department. Together, they discuss a potential outbreak of bubonic plague in a nearby neighborhood and the steps that need to be taken to prevent its spread. Meanwhile, Dr. Edwards is tasked with treating a young boy who has been brought in after being injured in a factory accident. Despite his best efforts, however, the boy eventually dies, leaving Edwards feeling defeated and questioning his abilities as a doctor.

Back at The Knick, Sister Harriet is adjusting to her new position as a nurse, but still struggles with guilt over her past as a midwife who performed illegal abortions. She confides in Dr. Algernon Edwards, who is sympathetic to her situation but also cautions her against getting too close to the patients. Meanwhile, Dr. Gallinger is still dealing with the loss of his daughter and has become increasingly paranoid and controlling as a result. He becomes increasingly hostile towards Edwards, seeing him as a threat to his position at the hospital.

As the episode progresses, Dr. Thackery is released from rehab and returns to The Knick. Though he initially seems to be doing well, it quickly becomes clear that his addiction is still very much a problem. While performing surgery on a patient, he collapses and is rushed to the hospital's new addiction ward. From there, he begins a new regimen of treatment that includes a new drug and a more structured rehabilitation program.

The remainder of the episode focuses heavily on the dynamics between the hospital's staff members and how their personal struggles continue to impact their work. Cornelia and Phillip work together to try and contain the outbreak of bubonic plague, while Dr. Edwards tries to prove to himself and his colleagues that he belongs at The Knick. Sister Harriet deals with her own moral dilemmas as she tries to help a patient who is seeking an illegal abortion, and Dr. Gallinger's paranoia begins to manifest in increasingly disturbing ways.

Overall, "You're No Rose" is another compelling and well-crafted episode of this dark and complex drama. The writing is excellent, as is the acting, and fans of the series are sure to find plenty to appreciate here. However, viewers should be aware that the show deals with some very difficult subject matter, including addiction, racism, and medical procedures that may be disturbing to some. As such, it may not be suitable for all audiences.
