Ex-Marine Mac Conway - AKA 'Quarry' - has just arrived back home after fighting in Vietnam and is finding out the hard way that the country he left to risk his life for hasn't changed for the better. He finds himself demonized by his peers and former friends, most of whom are passionately anti-war, and forgotten by his family, many of whom have moved on without him. Now, alone in Memphis with a seemingly useless set of skills, the soldier turns to questionable means as a source of income as he attempts to reacquaint and adapt to a new reality. As Mac is drawn deeper into a criminal world of corruption and greed, he finds himself questioning what, exactly, he was a world away fighting to defend.
