The Knights of Prosperity is a comedy series created by Rob Burnett and Jon Beckerman. The show follows a group of ordinary working-class people who are frustrated with their mundane lives and decide to pull off an unlikely heist. The plan is to rob Mick Jagger's luxurious apartment in New York City.
The season 1 premiere episode is titled "Pilot" and sets up the premise of the show. We are introduced to Eugene Gurkin (played by Donal Logue), a janitor at a luxury apartment building called 15 Central Park West. Eugene is bored with his life and his dead-end job, which he has had for over ten years. One evening, he has a chance encounter with an unsuccessful inventor named Louis Plunk (played by Lenny Venito), who is lamenting his misfortunes. Eugene begins to fantasize about stealing Mick Jagger's fortune and starts to tell Louis about it.
Together, they come up with a plan to steal Mick Jagger's fortune, which is estimated to be worth around $20 million. They decide to recruit a team of people to help them with the heist. Eugene and Louis start to assemble a group of people who are just as frustrated with their lives as they are. They call themselves "The Knights of Prosperity." The team includes a dental hygienist named Esperanza Villalobos (played by Sofia Vergara), a fast-food worker named Rockefeller Butts (played by Josh Grisetti), and a hot-headed locksmith named Gourishankar "Gary" Subramaniam (played by Maz Jobrani).
In the pilot episode, we see that the team has varying degrees of commitment to the mission. Esperanza is in it for the money and wants to use her share to help her family. Rockefeller is a slacker who is mostly interested in getting high, while Gary is a skilled locksmith who is eager to show off his abilities. Despite their differences, they band together with Eugene and Louis to plan their heist.
The team's first step is to learn everything they can about Mick Jagger's life and his apartment. They set up a surveillance system to watch his movements, and they also visit the location to scout the area. This leads to some comical moments, such as when Esperanza is mistaken for Jagger's cleaning lady and gets a tour of his apartment. The team also interacts with some colorful characters who live in the building, including a wealthy but eccentric woman who has a crush on Eugene.
As they continue to plan their heist, the team faces many obstacles and setbacks. They struggle to come up with a plan that won't land them in jail, and they also have to deal with personal conflicts within the group. When they realize that Mick Jagger is leaving town for a while, they decide to accelerate their plan and attempt the robbery. However, things don't go quite as planned, and the team is forced to improvise.
Overall, the pilot episode of The Knights of Prosperity sets the tone for the show. It is a lighthearted and humorous take on a heist story, and it introduces us to a lovable group of underdogs who are trying to make their dreams come true. While the show only lasted one season, it is a fun and enjoyable watch that is well worth checking out.
