The Last Kingdom Season 2 Episode 5 Episode 5

Uhtred and his men arrive in Winchester, the capital of Wessex, to discover the kingdom in turmoil. King Alfred's health is failing, and his heir, Edward, is inexperienced and unpopular. Meanwhile, the ambitious Bishop Heahmund of Sherborne arrives in Winchester with his army, ready to support whichever contender for the throne will give him the most power.

As Uhtred attempts to navigate the dangerous political landscape, he must also confront a personal betrayal when his former lover, Brida, turns up in Winchester as a member of Heahmund's army. Uhtred is torn between his feelings for Brida and his loyalty to his current lover, Gisela.

Elsewhere, Aethelflaed, the Lady of Mercia, is kidnapped by Viking warriors. Her husband, Aethelred, is unable to mount a rescue mission due to his own ambitions and jealousy towards Uhtred. Aethelflaed's fate hangs in the balance as Uhtred must decide whether to risk everything to save her.

Meanwhile, the Viking warlord Guthrum continues his attempts to conquer Wessex, putting even more pressure on Uhtred to make the right decisions.

As tensions rise and alliances shift, Uhtred finds himself at the center of a web of intrigue that could determine the future of England.
