Ep 7. Episode 7

Uhtred and his companions continue to navigate the complex political landscape of 9th century England in The Last Kingdom season 2 episode 7, simply titled "Episode 7." As the season nears its conclusion, tension between the rival kingdoms of Wessex and Mercia reaches a boiling point, and Uhtred once again finds himself caught in the middle of a power struggle.

The episode opens with Uhtred's lover, Gisela, and her father, Burgred, the king of Mercia, returning to the city of Tamworth following a harrowing escape from Wessex. Burgred is hoping to find safety within the city walls, but quickly realizes that his position as king is far from secure. His own subjects have grown restless, and many are openly calling for his removal due to his failure to protect them from the Wessex armies.

Meanwhile, in Wessex, King Alfred is facing his own challenges as he attempts to keep his kingdom safe from invaders. He is eagerly awaiting the arrival of Prince Aethelred, his newfound ally from Mercia, but soon learns that the prince has been delayed. In his absence, Alfred must navigate the treacherous waters of political maneuvering in order to keep his enemies at bay.

As Uhtred and his companions make their way through Mercia, they come across a young boy who desperately needs their help. Uhtred takes the boy under his wing, but soon realizes that the child may be more trouble than he's worth. The boy's true identity is revealed, and Uhtred is forced to make a difficult decision that could have far-reaching consequences.

Back in Tamworth, Burgred's situation goes from bad to worse as he is betrayed by one of his most trusted advisors. With the walls of the city closing in around him, Burgred is forced to make a bold move in order to try and save his kingdom. But his actions may come too late, as the armies of Wessex continue to gather at his gates.

Throughout the episode, there are numerous confrontations and battles as various factions attempt to gain the upper hand. Uhtred must use all of his skills as a warrior and a strategist in order to navigate these dangerous waters and protect those he loves. As the episode comes to a close, the stage is set for a final showdown between the forces of Wessex and Mercia, and Uhtred is once again caught in the middle.
