Bart is having trouble with fractions and Homer decides to help him out by taking him to the local fracking site where he works. While there, the two of them learn about the different types of rocks and minerals that make up the earth's crust and how they are extracted through the process of hydraulic fracturing. Meanwhile, Lisa becomes interested in the environmental impact of fracking and begins to investigate the potential dangers it poses to the local wildlife and human population. She enlists the help of her science teacher to conduct some research and they discover that the fracking process can lead to air pollution, water contamination, and earthquakes.
As Lisa's concerns grow, she decides to stage a protest outside the fracking site, calling for a ban on the practice in Springfield. Her efforts catch the attention of a local news station and soon the whole town is divided over the issue, with some arguing that fracking is necessary for the economy, while others believe it is a serious threat to the environment and public health.
In the midst of the debate, Marge is working on a garden project and discovers that her soil has been contaminated by chemicals from the fracking site. Shocked by this revelation, she joins Lisa in her efforts to stop fracking and together they organize a town hall meeting to discuss the issue with local lawmakers and business leaders.
Despite facing fierce opposition, Lisa and Marge refuse to back down and ultimately succeed in convincing the town to pass a ban on fracking. The episode ends with the family celebrating their victory and enjoying a day out in nature, reminding viewers of the importance of protecting the environment for future generations.
