In "Flanders' Ladder," the 21st episode of the 29th season of The Simpsons, we find Ned Flanders questioning his own existence and the morality of his past actions. After Ned has a near-death experience and returns to the land of the living, he finds himself haunted by the ghosts of his former loved ones who have passed away, including his late wife Maude and his mother. The ghosts try to help Ned reconcile his life and his beliefs with his past actions and the afterlife.

Meanwhile, Homer and the rest of the Simpson family decide to take an opportunity to get a sneak peek at their own futures by using a mystical crystal ball they find at a garage sale. As their futures play out before them, they are faced with the reality of their own mortality and try to change the course of their lives to avoid negative outcomes.

As the two separate storylines come to a climax, Ned must confront his own mortality and the actions of his past, while the Simpson family must come to terms with the inevitability of their own futures. "Flanders' Ladder" is an emotional and thought-provoking episode that tackles themes of life, death, and morality in a way that only The Simpsons can.
