Freeman then travels to Turkey to investigate the Islamic belief in prophets. He visits the Hagia Sophia, a former Christian church that was converted into a mosque. Freeman speaks with Islamic scholar Omer Mozaffar, who explains the Islamic belief in Muhammad as the final prophet who received the message of Allah.
Throughout the episode, Freeman also meets with individuals who have been chosen for specific missions in their own lives. He speaks with a firefighter who was chosen to work at Ground Zero on September 11, 2001, and a woman who believes she has been chosen by God to help the homeless in her community.
Ultimately, "The Chosen One" explores the common thread that exists among different religions and cultures in their belief in a higher power choosing certain individuals to fulfill a specific purpose. Through interviews with religious leaders and everyday people who have experienced this phenomenon firsthand, the episode provides a thought-provoking look at the concept of the chosen one.
