The No. 1 Ladies' Detective Agency is a television series that is equal parts comedy and drama. Jill Scott plays Mma Precious Ramotswe, Precious is an intelligent woman growing up on a farm in Botswana. Her father passes away and leaves her the farm. Precious decides that she does not want to be a farmer but would rather use her brains and intuition to become a detective. She sells of the farm and all the livestock and moves to the city to open her own agency. A couple of her friends join her at the agency and Precious quickly becomes a popular business owner. She is asked to solve a wide variety of crimes, many involve cheating spouses and other human dramas. Precious and her friends work hard to grow her business. They put up flyers throughout the town and soon, more and more clients become to come her way. As Precious' business grows, the complexity of cases she has to investigate grows as well. Precious finds herself in increasing amounts of danger with all the new challenges headed her way. She finds herself caught up in a dangerous ivory smuggling ring. Her assistant, Makutsi investigates deaths in a hospital. Precious also gets involved in a missing persons case which is complicated when she finds out the missing person probably wants to stay missing. Precious' business is not just a target for criminals. Her rival, Cephas, opens his own detective agency and tries to poach her business. He even tries to blackmail Precious and her team. Precious does not give up and she and her team continue working. They experience dramatic car chases and threats from every corner as they try to bust up gangs of criminals. Even with all the hard work, Precious still has time for romance. She is engaged to Matekoni, who is sometimes frustrated with all the hard work that Precious does.
