Ep 3. Visions of God

In the third episode of the third season of "The Story of God with Morgan Freeman," titled "Visions of God," Freeman explores the ways that different faiths have perceived the Divine throughout history. The episode begins with a discussion of dreams, which have been used by many religions as a way to connect with God. Freeman visits an expert in dream interpretation who explains that in many cultures, dreams are seen as a place where the veil between the material and spiritual worlds is thin.

In ancient times, gods were often depicted as ferocious, intimidating beings, while more recent depictions tend to be more benevolent. In the second half of the episode, Freeman looks at the ways that people have sought to communicate with God throughout history. He visits a Sufi mosque in Turkey where devotees use whirling dance as a way to enter a trance-like state and reach out to God. Freeman also visits a Native American gathering where peyote is used as a sacrament to connect with the divine. Finally, Freeman speaks with a man who has dedicated his life to using meditation and yoga to connect with God.

Throughout "Visions of God," Freeman seeks to understand the fundamental human desire to connect with something greater than ourselves. He examines the ways that we have used art, dance, dreams, and other forms of expression to try to bridge the gap between this world and the next. Ultimately, he arrives at a profound understanding of the role that faith and spirituality play in human life, and of our ongoing search for meaning and purpose in the universe.
