Ep 1. Seed

In The Walking Dead season 3 episode 1, titled "Seed," our group of survivors are battle-hardened and on the move. The episode opens with a nearly silent montage of them moving through abandoned towns, buildings, and woodlands, weapons at the ready at all times as they search for food and shelter. It's been several months since the events of the end of season two, and we see that the group has become much tighter-knit and more efficient in their movements and tactics. They've also become more ruthless; there's a montage of them killing zombies in the most brutal ways possible, and it's clear that they've all become extremely desensitized to the violence.

It's not long before the group comes across an abandoned prison, and they decide to investigate. The prison is surrounded by multiple fences and gates, which the group begins to clear. They realize that the prison could be a safe haven for them, and they start to formulate a plan for claiming it as their own. The rest of the episode focuses on this plan, and the inevitable obstacles that arise as they attempt to put it into action.

One of the biggest obstacles they encounter is the sheer number of zombies that are surrounding the prison. The group realizes that they need to do everything they can to reduce the number of zombies before they attempt to enter the prison proper. This leads to a long sequence in which they systematically clear out several cell blocks of the prison, working together to take down the zombies in a controlled and efficient manner.

There are a few tense moments throughout the episode, such as when Rick and Daryl are separated from the rest of the group and are forced to fight their way back to safety on their own. But for the most part, the episode is fairly straightforward in terms of plotting, and is focused primarily on establishing the new setting and the new dangers that the group will have to face in order to survive.

Overall, "Seed" is a strong start to season three, with plenty of the action, suspense, and gore that fans have come to expect from the series. It also does a good job of setting up the challenges that the group will face in their new environment, and introducing some new characters who will prove to be important later on. While it may not be the most complex or nuanced episode of The Walking Dead, it is a solid start to what promises to be an exciting new chapter for the series.
