In The Walking Dead season 3 episode 5, titled "Say the Word," we see the aftermath of the previous episode's climax where we learn about the Governor's true nature. Rick is still reeling from the loss of his wife, Lori, and is tasked with taking care of his newborn daughter, Judith. Michonne, who was seen in the previous episode, is trying to adjust to life with the group, and Daryl is struggling with Merle's absence.
The group returns to the prison, and Rick is in a state of shock and despair. He is unable to process what has happened and is distant from the others. Meanwhile, Glenn and Maggie search for baby supplies for Judith and stop by the store where Lori had given birth. They find numerous supplies, but Glenn is visibly shaken by the sight of the blood-stained floor where Lori had died.
Back at the prison, Michonne continues to be a mystery to the group, and she decides to go out on a supply run with Carl. They come across a café where Michonne finds a can of baby formula and some cat food. In a nearby room, they find a survivor who has died and turned, and a traumatized Carl takes it upon himself to put the man down. Michonne doesn't say much but appears to be impressed by Carl's bravery and skill.
Meanwhile, Daryl is still looking for Merle and comes across a group of walkers who have eaten a deer. In a fit of rage, Daryl begins to attack the walkers and finds a walker with the same Cherokee Rose that Carol had given him in season 2. Daryl has an emotional breakdown and begins to cry, showing a softer side that we haven't seen before.
Back at the prison, Rick is still in a daze and begins to search for Lori's body. He comes across a room full of walkers and begins to attack them, hoping to find her. He eventually finds her body and breaks down in tears.
The episode ends with a scene of the Governor in his apartment, flicking through a photo album of his old life with his wife and child. He then proceeds to sit in a room with a fish tank full of the severed heads of walkers, and begins to talk to his deceased daughter as if she were still alive.
Overall, "Say the Word" is a somber and emotional episode that explores grief in the post-apocalyptic world. It also continues to develop the characters of Michonne and Daryl, giving them more depth and complexity. The tension between the prison group and the Governor also continues to build, setting the stage for a potentially explosive confrontation.
