Almost immediately, suspicion fell on Paul Flores, who had a history of sexual misconduct and had been the last person seen with Kristin. However, despite extensive searches, investigations, and interviews with Flores, law enforcement was unable to find any evidence that could prove Flores was responsible for Kristin's disappearance.
As the years passed, Kristin's story remained a mystery, until a new witness emerged in 2016 with a startling claim. The witness stated that they had seen Paul Flores digging in the backyard of his mother's home in Arroyo Grande, California, shortly after Kristin's disappearance. Armed with this new information, law enforcement obtained warrants to search the property.
On February 5, 2020, authorities descended on the Flores family property with cadaver dogs and ground-penetrating radar. They eventually excavated a concrete deck in the backyard and discovered "biological remains." Though the remains have yet to be conclusively identified as Kristin's, Paul Flores was arrested and charged with murder.
