In Tsukigakirei season 1 episode 9, titled "The Wind Rises," viewers are taken through the beginning of summer as the end of the school term is fast approaching. The episode begins with a scene of Akane and Kotarou visiting the shrine fest together, and they both happen to bump into Chinatsu at the fest. It is apparent that Chinatsu is still nursing her broken heart about Kotarou's choice of Akane over her and from the awkwardness in the air, it's clear that she still has some lingering feelings for him.
Meanwhile, Kotarou is still working hard to meet the demands of his Literature Club advisor, who is pressuring him to have his novel ready for submission soon. However, Kotarou's school workload continues to pile up, which makes it difficult for him to maintain a balance between his academic, club, and personal life. This leads him to take some time off from Akane as he focuses on his writing.
With the summer heat becoming more intense with each passing day, Kotarou finds himself unable to concentrate on his writing, which prompts him to take a walk in the park where he stumbles upon a young lady just sitting by herself. They strike up a conversation and Kotarou learns that her name is Kanda, and she happens to be a first-year at his school. Together they discuss their ambitions and the expectations their families have for them.
Later on, while Kotarou is on a date with Akane, they run into Kanda, who excitedly waves at Kotarou to say hi. This prompts Akane to become mildly jealous, but she suppresses her emotions and politely greets Kanda. After their encounter, Akane confides in her friend Hira about how she feels insecure about her relationship with Kotarou, as she is often second-guessing herself and wondering if Kotarou might have other love interests.
The episode ends with the promise of Akane and Kotarou spending the last day of the school term together, watching the sunrise. As they sit on the rooftop and watch the sunrise, they reminisce about the events of the school year and reflect on how much they've grown as individuals and as a couple. Their relationship seems to be strengthened by the prospect of what the future has in store for them.
Overall, this episode serves as a reminder that Kotarou and Akane's relationship is not the only important thing in their lives. There are other responsibilities that they need to attend to, and they need to balance those responsibilities with taking care of their relationship. It also highlights the importance of communication in a relationship, especially when it comes to dealing with jealousy and insecurity. The episode leaves viewers eagerly waiting to see how Akane and Kotarou will navigate the challenges that come with maintaining a long-distance relationship over summer break and what the future holds for them.
