As the second season of TURN: Washington's Spies moves forward, the seventh episode titled Valley Forge takes viewers deeper into the Revolutionary War and the sacrifices made by those who fought in it. The episode opens with Benedict Arnold continuing to feel disrespected by General Horatio Gates. Meanwhile, Abe Woodhull is in Philadelphia working as a spy for the Continental Army, gathering information on the British and their plans for the city.
Tensions are high in Valley Forge, where the Continental Army has settled for the winter. Morale is low, and soldiers are barely surviving the harsh conditions. To make matters worse, supplies are dwindling, and General Washington is struggling to keep his men fed and clothed. In an effort to boost morale, Major Ben Tallmadge begins a secret mission, in which he and Caleb Brewster must sneak into enemy territory. They are tasked with finding a blacksmith who can make ammunition for the Continental Army.
While Tallmadge and Brewster are on their mission, Abe receives a message from Anna Strong, asking him to meet her in Valley Forge. Anna is worried about her husband, who is away fighting in the war. She wants Abe to use his connections to get Richard back home, where he can see his family and get some much-needed rest. However, Abe is reluctant to ask for any favors, knowing that it could put him at risk of being discovered as a spy.
As the episode progresses, tensions continue to rise between Arnold and Gates. Arnold believes that Gates is failing as a leader, and he decides to take matters into his own hands. He reaches out to General Washington and offers his services as a spy. Washington is hesitant at first, having heard rumors of Arnold's questionable loyalty in the past. However, Arnold convinces him that he is on the side of the Continental Army, and Washington agrees to let him help.
Meanwhile, Tallmadge and Brewster successfully make it back to Valley Forge with the blacksmith, but they soon discover that their mission was not as secret as they had hoped. The British become aware of their activities and launch an attack on the Continental Army's encampment. The soldiers are caught off guard and are quickly overwhelmed by the enemy's superior numbers.
