In Vacation House Rules season 2 episode 7, titled "Art Studio Sanctuary," contractor Scott McGillivray and his team head to the Gulf Islands in British Columbia to help a couple transform their in-law suite into a creative space.
The couple, who live in Vancouver, bought the property on the Gulf Islands as a vacation home with the intention of using the in-law suite as an art studio. However, the current space is dark, cramped, and overall not conducive to creativity.
Scott and his team get to work, first by knocking down a wall to create a larger, open space. They install new windows and a sliding glass door to bring in more natural light. The team also adds skylights and recessed lighting to brighten up the space.
To create a functional art studio, the team installs custom-built storage cabinets and shelving units to hold art supplies and equipment. They also create a large work table out of reclaimed wood.
In addition to the art studio, Scott and his team also tackle renovations in the main living area of the in-law suite. They replace outdated flooring with new laminate hardwood and install a beautiful stone fireplace to add a cozy touch.
But the biggest challenge of the renovation comes when the team discovers a significant mold issue behind a wall in the main living area. Scott and his team work quickly to remove the mold and fix the underlying issue to ensure the health and safety of the homeowners.
Throughout the episode, Scott emphasizes the importance of a good layout and functionality in a vacation home. He also stresses the importance of making the most of natural light and incorporating personal touches to make the space feel like home.
By the end of the episode, the in-law suite has been transformed into a stunning art studio sanctuary that the homeowners can enjoy for years to come.
