Jack is in for an unpleasant surprise when he visits his mother, who has a new boyfriend, at her birthday party. In order to please her, Jack pretends his job is going well, which lands him in hot water when she decides to pay him a visit at work. Meanwhile, Will helps Karen deal with her compulsive shopping by taking her to a support group, but he is surprised by what he learns about her spending habits. Grace tries to balance her new job and her relationship with Nathan, which causes tension between them.
