Ep 16. It's a Family Affair

In the Will & Grace season 9 episode 16 titled "It's a Family Affair," Will and Grace both have family members paying them a visit. Grace's father, Martin, played by Robert Klein, comes to stay with her for a few days. Martin is a successful yet borderline chauvinistic businessman who Grace has struggled to connect with her whole life. Meanwhile, Will's mother, Marilyn, portrayed by Blythe Danner, is in town for her birthday. Will is thrilled to celebrate with her, but things take an unexpected turn when his older brother, Sam, unexpectedly shows up with his new fiancé, the much younger and Instagram-famous Smitty.

As they all gather together to celebrate Marilyn's birthday, tensions arise between Grace and Martin. Grace struggles to relate to her father, who doesn't seem to understand or appreciate her career as an interior designer. Martin is also dealing with his own marital problems with Grace's mother, Bobbi, and confides in her about his ongoing struggles. Meanwhile, Will is shocked to learn that his brother is engaged to someone he just met, and struggles to come to terms with their significant age difference.

As the family dinner progresses, each member is forced to confront their own issues and try to find common ground with one another. Grace and Martin have a heart-to-heart conversation where they both open up about their respective struggles with their careers and relationships. Will also tries to get to know Smitty, despite his reservations about his brother's engagement.

As the evening comes to a close, Will and Grace both find themselves with a newfound appreciation for their own families. They realize that no matter how different or complicated their relationships may be, they will always have each other's backs. "It's a Family Affair" is a heartwarming episode that highlights the importance of family, even in the midst of conflicts and differences.
