Ep 1. Smarty Pants

In the season 2 premiere of Wizards of Waverly Place, entitled "Smarty Pants," things get hectic as the Russo family prepares for the upcoming wizard competition. Alex, played by Selena Gomez, is determined to win the competition this year after losing to her brother Justin, played by David Henrie, in the previous year. Her father Jerry, played by David DeLuise, assures her that if she studies for a month, she'll easily win. However, Alex, being her usual lazy self, doesn't want to put in the effort and seeks an easy solution.

Enter the Smarty Pants spell, a shortcut that enhances the intelligence of whoever casts it. Alex quickly realizes the spell will give her all the knowledge she needs for the competition without having to do any actual studying. She casts the spell, but soon realizes that her boosted intelligence comes at a cost. She becomes a know-it-all and alienates her friends, family, and even her crush Mason, played by Gregg Sulkin.

Meanwhile, Justin is trying to come up with a brand new spell for the competition. He devises the "Magic Hand" spell, which conjures up an extra hand he can use for spell casting. While testing the spell, Justin accidentally conjures up a mysterious figure, who he can't seem to get rid of.

Max, played by Jake T. Austin, also gets in on the action when he opens up a Wizard Screen, a portal to an alternate reality. He befriends a group of aliens on the other side and brings them back with him to Earth. The arrival of the aliens complicates the Russo's already hectic lives, and they quickly try to come up with a plan to send them back.

Overall, "Smarty Pants" is an exciting beginning to Wizards of Waverly Place's second season. It sets the stage for new adventures and challenges for the Russo family and their friends. With exceptional acting from the talented cast and hilarious writing, it's sure to leave viewers entertained and eager for more.
