TRON: Uprising continues the groundwork laid by the first TRON movie in the 1980's and works to bridge the gap in time between TRON and the recent TRON: Legacy film. The story is told through the perspective of a lowly program named Beck. With Flynn driven into hiding and Tron apparently defeated, Clu has begun his takeover of the virtual world and his military force appears unstoppable. At the helm of the invasion force occupying Argon City is the cold, calculating program known as General Tessler. In a far corner of The Grid lies Argon City, home of the protagonist Beck. With the arrival of Clu's army Beck had felt no aspirations to fight back or do anything but keep his head down. However, once Beck witnesses his best friend, Bodhi, derezzed before his eyes he finds the revolutionary spark within himself. Soon he is found by Tron, whom is still alive but mortally wounded enough to not be able to fight Clu. Under Tron's tutelage Beck trains to become a fighting force strong enough to stand up to General Tessler's forces. By dawning the mantle of The Renegade, Beck sets out to disrupt the workings of the occupation force and ultimately try to bring down General Tessler himself. To become The Renegade, Beck must become TRON's equal in combat and ultimate take the title of TRON himself. Through the series we see Beck struggle between his life as a simple repair program or the hero of The Grid, TRON. Work on the series began in December of 2010 with Bruce Boxleitner reprising his role of TRON, Elijah Wood as the voice of Beck, Lance Henrikson as General Tessler, and Many Moore voicing Mara. With developers Edward Kitsis and Adam Hororitz, director Charlie Bean, and the animation handled by Disney's studio the blending of 2D animation and CGI animation is absolutely seamless and sometimes forgotten.
