Yidio Help

Basic Searching

The simplest and most common type of search consists of one or multiple keywords. When searching basic key words like sports, fashion, movies, etc., the video search engine will look through the video database and return all video records containing words that match every keyword in your search. If your search query returns too many results, you can refine your search by submitting a more complex search. If your search returns too few results, reducing the number of keywords in your search will usually help.

In addition to basic keyword searches, the Yidio search also supports several search operators. For example, if you are interested in videos containing an exact phrase, such as "super bowl", you can use double quotes to indicate that an exact phrase match should be used.

Here is a list of search operators that can be used:

"madonna" – The use of double quotations searches for exact phrase Madonna.

OR Operator - Finds all video records that contain either the phrase.  Ex. Bulls OR Michael Jordan

AND Operator - Finds all videos that contain both words.  Ex.  Bulls AND Michael Jordan

(-) Operator - Finds all video records that contain the words 'donald' and 'trump', but do not contain the word 'ivana'.  Ex. donald trump -ivana

Using Search Modifiers

By default, keywords that are searched will be matched against all information that exists for each video record in the database. Search modifiers can be used, however, if you would prefer to match a keyword against a specific field of information in a video record.

For example, if you would like to find videos where the words 'grey’s anatomy' appears in the video title, the query expression 'title:grey’s anatomy' can be used.  In this expression, the 'title:' is considered the search modifier and only searches the titles of videos.

Here is a sample list of modifiers that can be used:

title:grey’s anatomy

Search all videos with 'Grey’s Anatomy' in the title

Using Search Sorters

The Yidio video search service provides a variety of ways to sort the search results returned for a given search. By default, video search results are sorted by the highest rank to the most recent, most relevant and most popular videos. If you would prefer to sort search results differently, a different sorting scheme can be specified by including a sorter, for example 'sort:mostRecent', in your search query. Only one sorter can be used per search query expression.

Here are example sorters that can be used.  They are also located above videos on the search results page.

sort:vrank

Sorts videos with the highest vRank are listed first. This is the default sorter.

sort:mostRecent
