Jay (Ed O'Neill) is still adjusting to life as a grandfather in the latest episode of Modern Family, titled Sarge & Pea. When his favorite blend of coffee isn't available, he lashes out at Claire (Julie Bowen), who is trying to help him with his social media presence. Feeling guilty, he decides to take his granddaughter, Joe (Jeremy Maguire), out for the day, but instead gets dragged into helping out at a veteran's reunion.

Meanwhile, Phil (Ty Burrell) is busy trying to impress Jay’s friend Jerry (guest star Patton Oswalt), who he believes is a big wheel in the real estate industry. After offering to help him with a promotional video for his website, he realizes he may have bitten off more than he can chew. Ty Burrell delivers some hilarious physical comedy as he struggles to keep up with the demands of cutting-edge technology, while Jerry’s wife displays a wry sense of humor as she watches him flounder.

Mitch (Jesse Tyler Ferguson) and Cam (Eric Stonestreet) spend the day trying to convince their new tenant, Fran (guest star Dawnn Lewis), that they are the perfect landlords. They try to establish boundaries and build a relationship with the oddly-named woman, but things quickly spiral out of control when she takes advantage of their kindness and hospitality.

The episode is both heartwarming and funny, with a perfect blend of family drama and laughs that Modern Family is known for. Ed O'Neill and Julie Bowen once again show off their comedic chops, while Ty Burrell and Patton Oswalt share a memorable scene that will leave audiences in stitches. The supporting cast, including the always-entertaining Stonestreet and Ferguson, deliver some hilarious moments as well.

Throughout all of the hijinks, the true heart of the episode lies in Jay's relationship with his granddaughter, Joe. O'Neill once again proves that he is a master of understated emotion, as he struggles to come to terms with his new role as a grandparent and the challenges that come with it. The scenes between him and Maguire are touching and heartwarming, and add a layer of depth to the show that has been lacking in recent seasons.

Overall, Sarge & Pea is a fantastic episode of Modern Family that showcases everything that makes the show great. From the outstanding performances to the laugh-out-loud moments, the whole thing comes together seamlessly. Whether you're a longtime fan or just tuning in for the first time, this is an episode that's not to be missed. So, it's a must-watch episode for all the fans of Modern Family.
