In season 5 episode 2 of "Pretty Little Liars" entitled "Whirly Girly," the girls are still reeling from Mona's death and trying to move on with their lives. Aria is busy dealing with her breakup from Ezra and focusing on her new photography internship, while Spencer is struggling to balance schoolwork and volunteering at the Rosewood Community Center. Hanna, on the other hand, is feeling guilty about her role in Mona's death and starts to act out.
Meanwhile, Emily is still trying to piece together the mystery surrounding Ali's disappearance and encounters a new suspect in her investigation. As the girls continue to receive threatening messages from "A," they start to suspect that someone else knows their secrets and is targeting them. They also uncover a new clue that could lead them closer to the truth about Mona's murder.
The episode opens with Aria taking photos of her friends at the funeral for Mona, who was murdered in the previous season. Aria's boss, Tanner, tells her that she wants her to keep an eye on the girls and report back to her if she sees anything suspicious. Meanwhile, Spencer is struggling to keep up with her schoolwork and commitments at the community center, which leads to tension with her boyfriend Toby.

They find a new clue which leads them closer to the truth about Mona's murder, but also puts them in danger. With tensions rising and the girls being pushed to the brink, the episode ends on a cliffhanger, leaving the audience wondering what will happen next in the mysterious town of Rosewood.
