Ep 5. Get Schwifty

In "Get Schwifty," the fifth episode of the second season of Rick and Morty, a giant alien head appears in the sky over Earth, demanding a live performance of the planet's best musical talent. Rick and Morty are called upon by the president to help save the world, as they are the only ones who have a personal spacecraft capable of getting them up there to the alien head.

Back on Earth, things are also heating up as a religious group called the Cromulons have been formed to worship the giant alien head, and they're not to be messed with. With the fate of the planet in their hands, Rick and Morty team up with Ice-T (yes, the rapper turned actor) to create a hit song and perform it in front of the alien judges. Chaos ensues as the Cromulons demand more and more blood sacrifices in the name of their newfound religion, and Rick and Morty's lives are truly in danger.

As always, the episode is filled with humor and satire, as many of the show's trademarks are on full display. The absurdity of the situation is juxtaposed with the very real danger that comes with being under the power of an alien species with inexplicable abilities. In true Rick and Morty fashion, many of the episode's main characters end up dying, but not before some truly hilarious and entertaining situations are created.

The episode's title, "Get Schwifty," comes from an inside joke between Rick and Morty, and also refers to the expression used by the alien judges to indicate approval of a musical selection. The song that Rick and Morty perform is also reminiscent of certain eras of music, but is ultimately a product of their own twisted imaginations.
