The DESPY Awards is the fifth episode in the seventh season of RuPaul's Drag Race. This episode sees the remaining contestants face off in a mock awards show competition. The episode starts off with a mini-challenge where the queens are tasked with designing their own award-winning dress out of garbage bags. RuPaul then announces that the main challenge is to participate in the DESPY Awards, which is a parody of the famous Golden Globe Awards.

For the DESPY Awards, the queens are divided into two teams, with Ginger Minj as the team captain for the "Glamazines" and Pearl for the "Death Becomes Her" team. Each team is responsible for writing and performing their own comedic skit and presenting an award. They will be judged on their creativity, performance, and team cohesion.

The Glamazines' skit is called "Shteamy-Wieners", a spoof on the famous steamy romance novels. Their performance features each queen portraying a character from the book, with Violet Chachki playing the lead character and Ginger playing the villain. They also showcase their comedic chops with some hilarious one-liners and innuendos.

The Death Becomes Her team chooses to do a parody of "Mommy Dearest" called "Mommy Deadest". The skit features each queen as a different member of the family, with Pearl playing the iconic role of Joan Crawford. Their performance is a bit more dramatic and over-the-top compared to the Glamazines, with lots of yelling and dramatic gestures.

After their performances, the queens take to the stage to present their awards. The Glamazines present the award for "Best New Drag Queen", while the Death Becomes Her team presents the award for "Shadiest Queen". Each queen gives a hilarious acceptance speech, with some throwing shade at their fellow competitors.

Back on the main stage, the judges provide their critiques. In particular, the judges praise Kennedy Davenport for her performance in the Glamazines' skit, and Katya for her comedic timing in the Death Becomes Her skit. However, they also note some weaknesses in each team's performance, including Ginger's overacting and Pearl's lack of energy.

In the end, the Glamazines are declared the winners of the DESPY Awards. Kennedy Davenport is declared the individual winner of the challenge and receives a prize package, which includes a trip to Puerto Vallarta and a gift card for MAC Cosmetics.

The episode concludes with the bottom two queens, Kandy Ho and Mrs. Kasha Davis, lip-syncing for their lives to "Lovergirl" by Teena Marie. The judges are impressed by Kandy's high-energy performance, but ultimately decide to save Mrs. Kasha Davis and eliminate Kandy Ho from the competition.

In summary, The DESPY Awards is a comedy-filled episode that showcases the remaining queen's talents in both performance and comedy. The challenge provides ample opportunity for each queen to shine, while also demonstrating the importance of teamwork and collaboration in drag.
