As someone who loves vampire-based entertainment, the show The Originals has always been a favorite of mine. The show’s first season episode 17, Moon Over Bourbon Street, is a highly captivating and intriguing episode that has something for every lover of suspense, romance, and drama.

In Moon Over Bourbon Street, we see the story continue to unfold as the always-powerful Original family, which includes Klaus (Joseph Morgan), Elijah (Daniel Gillies), and Rebekah (Claire Holt), continue to navigate their place in the city of New Orleans. As always, the intrigue and politics of the supernatural community make for a staunch challenge, even for the characters that are the legendary Originals.

At this point in the show, Klaus has found himself mesmerized by a human named Camille (Leah Pipes), who is a bartender at one of his favorite hangouts in the city. He feels drawn to her in a way that he can’t quite explain. When he discovers that she has been through a traumatic event, he uses this as an opportunity to get closer to her and tries to help her heal from her pain.

Meanwhile, Elijah finds himself caught up in a tangled web of deceit and betrayal when he realizes that someone close to him has been working behind his back for the enemy. In a moment of true self-discovery, Elijah has to decide what is most important: his family or his personal desires.

The episode's title, Moon Over Bourbon Street, takes on multiple meanings throughout the episode. Firstly, it is a reference to a classic song by Sting that was inspired by the charming and mysterious atmosphere of New Orleans. Secondly, it is representative of the restlessness and unease that many of the characters feel as they navigate their way through an ever-shifting political landscape, trying to remain one step ahead of their enemies.

The episode also explores the delicate balance that exists between the supernatural community and the human community in New Orleans. As Klaus begins to show his human side more often, we see how much of a challenge it can be for supernatural beings to interact effectively with humans, as the former have an entirely different set of beliefs, needs, and morals.

As always, the show's writing is exceptional and is brought to life by a talented cast. In this particular episode, Joseph Morgan shines in his role as Klaus, bringing a vulnerability and humanity to the character that is both unexpected and endearing. Leah Pipes also delivers an impressive performance as Camille, holding her own against the more seasoned actors on set.

In addition to the great storyline, the episode has some breathtaking cinematography with the city of New Orleans serving as a beautiful backdrop to the show’s supernatural events. It is not hard to see why this show quickly developed a devoted fanbase.

Overall, Moon Over Bourbon Street is a fantastic episode that perfectly encapsulates the dark and intense energy of The Originals. Whether you are an avid viewer of the show or new to the series, this episode is an excellent starting point that will leave you thoroughly entertained and wondering what will happen next.
