Bart has been a mischief maker in school and he gets in trouble for the umpteenth time. In the wake of this, Marge decides that he needs to learn some responsibility and takes him to a prison to scare him straight. However, things do not go according to plan when the prison's decorations remind Bart of Christmas and he decides to act as a "jailhouse Santa" to the inmates.
Meanwhile, Marge tries to organize a Christmas musical featuring the inmates as performers, which proves to be challenging due to the various quirks they have. Despite this, she perseveres and manages to put up a decent show, which even the prison guards enjoy.
Homer, on the other hand, gets his own Christmas surprise when he finds out that his old co-worker, Eddie, has returned to town. The catch is that Eddie has been living in a retirement home and has come back to say goodbye to his friends. Homer, determined to give Eddie a good Christmas, takes him on a wild ride around town, but things quickly get out of hand.
As Christmas Eve approaches, the family gear up for their usual holiday traditions, with Lisa trying to teach Maggie about the true meaning of the holiday and Marge preparing for a big family dinner. However, they are all interrupted when Bart's jailhouse Santa scheme goes awry and he ends up in danger. The family quickly rushes to his aid and risks their own safety to save him.
In the end, the family comes together to celebrate Christmas, even if things do not go exactly as planned. The episode highlights the importance of family, forgiveness, and being there for those who need us, even in unexpected ways.
