In the sixth episode of the first season of United States Of Tara titled "Transition," Tara is still struggling to come to terms with the root cause of her DID (dissociative identity disorder) and the memories of her childhood flooding her mind. She is trying to find a way to integrate all of her personalities into one before she completely loses herself. At the same time, her husband Max is also trying to come to terms with Tara’s DID and how it is affecting him and their family.

The episode begins with Tara's sister Charmaine, who is still wary of Tara and her personalities, trying to persuade her to share her diagnosis with their mother. But Tara is not ready and still trying to figure out what she wants to do with her multiple personalities. Meanwhile, Tara's alter, Buck, begins to emerge as dominant and starts to take over Tara's life. Buck is the toughest and most aggressive personality in Tara's system and is known to be dangerous. He starts to cause trouble for Tara's family and friends and even gets into a bar fight.

As Max continues to support Tara, he becomes increasingly exhausted from the stress of her DID and is struggling to keep their family together. He starts to reach out to a support group for family members of people with DID and forms a bond with a woman named Pam. Tara, on the other hand, meets her therapist, Dr. Ocean, to discuss her symptoms and whether it's possible to integrate all of her personalities into one. Dr. Ocean suggests that Tara should try to embrace her alter personalities rather than trying to suppress them, which Tara finds difficult to do.

Meanwhile, Tara's oldest daughter, Kate, who is also struggling to cope with Tara's DID, decides to skip college and takes a job as a cashier at a local supermarket. Kate is a creative but troubled teenager, and her decision to quit college only adds to the tension in the family. She starts to hang out with a coworker at the supermarket named Lynda, who introduces her to marijuana. The two soon become friends and start to sell drugs together.

As Tara continues to struggle with her DID, she starts to experience hallucinations and flashbacks to her childhood abuse. In one of her sessions with Dr. Ocean, she recalls an incident where she was being sexually abused by a family member, which led to the creation of one of her alter personalities. Tara begins to realize that her alters were created as a coping mechanism for the abuse she suffered as a child, and she needs to confront her past in order to move forward.

The episode ends with Tara having a breakdown after Buck takes over and proceeds to hurt her husband Max. Tara realizes that she needs to face her trauma and confront her abuser in order to fully come to terms with her DID. The episode sets up the next few episodes as Tara begins her journey towards integration and recovery.

Overall, "Transition" is a compelling episode that explores the complexities of living with dissociative identity disorder and the impact it has on families and relationships. The show does an excellent job of depicting the struggles of those who have DID and how they are often misunderstood by those around them. The episode sets up an intriguing storyline that leaves the audience eager to see how Tara will confront her past and integrate her personalities in the coming episodes.
