Blind Fury (1989) is an action film largely influenced by Japanese samurai movies. The movie stars Rutger Hauer as Nick Parker, a blind Vietnam veteran. Despite his impairment he is a master swordsman, skilled in martial arts. When he returns to the United States he goes on a rescue mission to save an old friend from the war. Nick Parker is blinded in Vietnam and taken in by a group of local villagers. They nurse him back to health and help him deal with his new blindness by teaching him swordplay. He returns from Vietnam and attempts to locate Frank a friend of his from the Army, but he soon finds only Frank's son Billy (Brandon Call). Billy's mother has been murdered and his father kidnapped. Parker and Billy make it their mission to rescue Frank, who is being held hostage and forced to make drugs for an evil crime syndicate in Las Vegas. Parker gives the criminals a surprising run for their money and the crime boss ultimately hires a martial arts expert to take on the blind swordsman. Parker must defeat him in order to free Frank and put a stop to the drug manufacturing business.
