The U.S. erotic thriller Sliver stars actress Sharon Stone who was famous at the time of release for a similar role played the previous year in Basic Instinct. Released in 1993, the 107-minute film is based on a novel of the same name by Ira Levin and tells the story of a woman beginning to suspect a serial killer is attacking people in her apartment building. Sliver was directed by Australian Philip Noyce who has directed critically acclaimed films including Dead Calm and Rabbit Proof Fence; alongside Sharon Stone the movie stars William Baldwin and Tom Berenger as the main suspects in the series of killings. Carly Norris is a new tenant in one of New York's famous Sliver building apartment complexes; the book editor moves into her apartment and soon catches the romantic attention of the reclusive Zeke Hawkins. Carly is also quickly targeted for a potential romantic relationship by another resident of the building, a novelist called Jack Lansford. Carly quickly begins an affair with Zeke and discovers a little bit of the recent history of the apartment building and her own apartment; the previous tenant is revealed to have fallen to her death in mysterious circumstances. As Carly and Zeke continue their affair, two more residents are killed in mysterious circumstances in the Sliver building prompting a police investigation; Carly is warned to be careful in her daily activities to avoid being a victim of a suspected serial killer. Looking back into the history of the murder victims, Carly discovers the previous tenant of her apartment was having an affair with Zeke and was stalked by Jack; Carly realizes history may be repeating itself with her own romantic life. During her affair with Zeke, Carly uncovers his deepest secrets, including the fact he is the owner of the building and has set up surveillance cameras in each apartment. Eventually Carly must unmask the killer from the choice of Zeke or Jack. Although the production of Sliver was received with mixed reviews, the film did make a large profit at the worldwide box office.
