- 2 hr 2 min
In Depression-era Oklahoma, 14-year-old Whit lives on a ramshackle farm with his mother. Disaster hits them when the farm is struck by a debilitating dust storm, and at the same time, Whit's uncle Red turns up suddenly, throwing the household into a tizzy. Red is an aspiring musician with an opportunity to audition for the Grand Old Opry, but he's a bad driver in poor health, so Whit convinces his mother to drive him to his destination in Nashville. Along the way, he bonds with his uncle and begins to see some hope for himself beyond his bleak farm upbringing.
