A kindly bishop gives him a gift that will allow him to start his life over. However, he must break his parole to truly begin again. As a result, rigid Inspector Javert continues to pursue him. Valjean first makes a name for himself as he becomes a respected mayor and then lives in seclusion with his adoptive daughter Cosette. All the while, Javert tries to find Valjean and apprehend him.
