Modern Romance, written and directed by Albert Brooks, is a film released in 1981. The film follows a film editor named Robert Cole who is working on a low budget science fiction film and has a severely strained relationship with a bank employee named Mary Harvard. The unstable relationship is due to Robert Cole consistently causing problems due to his irrational jealousy and neurosis. The relationship is ended because Robert believes that there is another woman out there out there that would be better than his girlfriend Mary. Even though the two are deeply in love with each other they go their own ways. After going back to single life he realizes the grass may not be greener on the other side.
