Mercenary Sean Dillon is a man who never quite seems able to escape his checkered past, after being rescued by the British secret service following an assassination he has committed Dillon finds himself drawn into working as a spy. The tangled web of lies and secrets Dillon encounters leads him into a host of trouble with ex-IRA members now working for a terrorist group in Iran. In a New York hospital an elderly man reveals a long held secret that could change the direction of Dillon's mission and his fate in the near future.
