Piranha (1995) is an American horror film that was directed by Scott P. Levy. The film features an ensemble cast that includes William Katt, Alexandra Paul, Monte Markham, and Darleen Carr. As the title suggests, the film revolves around a group of genetically-engineered piranhas that terrorize a small community. The plot of the movie revolves around the scientific experimentation gone wrong. A secret military experiment goes wrong, and soon, genetically-modified piranhas escape from their laboratory and make their way into a nearby river. The piranhas then begin to attack and prey on the unsuspecting locals, who are out and about enjoying a long-awaited summer vacation.

William Katt stars as Paul Grogan, a grizzled old fisherman who discovers the piranhas and tries to warn others about the danger they pose. Alexandra Paul plays Maggie McKeown, a government worker who uncovers the true nature of the experiment and tries to stop the piranhas before it's too late. Monte Markham plays the nefarious Dr. Robert Hoak, the scientist responsible for the creation of the piranhas.

The movie begins with a sequence in which two teenagers are looking for a place to skinny dip in the nearby lake. In the course of their exploring, they come across a seemingly abandoned military laboratory where they unknowingly free a school of genetically-engineered piranhas. The rest of the movie takes place as these piranhas wreak havoc on a small, idyllic community.

The movie is filled with tense and gory scenes as the piranhas attack their human prey, biting and devouring them in gruesome detail. As the death toll rises, Grogan and McKeown race against time to try and find a way to stop the piranhas, even as Dr. Hoak tries to cover up his own role in the disaster.

The movie's special effects are impressive for their time, with the piranhas themselves looking particularly menacing as they dart through the water in their search for prey. There are also a number of impressive scenes that showcase practical effects, as human actors are covered in fake blood and prosthetic limbs are bitten off and torn apart.

Despite the gruesome nature of the movie, Piranha (1995) also has a healthy sense of humor. There are a number of comedic scenes interspersed throughout the movie, which help to relieve some of the tension and make the whole thing a bit more palatable. These comedic moments are largely provided by Katt's performance as Grogan, who is a gruff, no-nonsense character with a wry sense of humor.

Overall, the movie is a fast-paced and entertaining horror flick that is sure to appeal to fans of the genre. While it may feel a bit dated in places, Piranha (1995) is a classic B-movie that delivers on its promise of scares, gore, and humor.

Piranha is a 1995 horror movie with a runtime of 1 hour and 20 minutes.
