Ponga Pandit (1975) is a Bollywood comedy-drama film directed by Prayag Raaj. The movie stars Randhir Kapoor, Neeta Mehta, Danny Denzongpa, and Preeti Ganguly in lead roles. The story of the film revolves around Ponga (Randhir Kapoor), who is a lazy and jobless man who lives with his widowed mother and his younger sister. His mother is worried about his future and keeps asking him to get a job, but he shows no interest in doing so. He spends his time playing cards, drinking with his friends, and flirting with girls.

One day, Ponga meets a beautiful girl, Renu (Neeta Mehta), and falls in love with her. Renu is a simple girl who lives with her father and stepmother. Her father, Colonel Saab (Kamal Kapoor), is a strict and disciplinarian man, who is unhappy with her relationship with Ponga. He forbids her from meeting him, but she continues to see him in secret.

Things take a turn when Ponga and his friends get involved in a fight with a group of criminals. The criminals are looking for an infamous thief who has run away with a valuable diamond, and they mistake Ponga for him. Ponga is arrested by the police and put in jail.

While in jail, Ponga meets a prisoner named Charlie (Danny Denzongpa), who claims to know the whereabouts of the stolen diamond. Charlie tells Ponga that he has hidden the diamond in Renu's house, and he gives Ponga a map to find it. Ponga escapes from jail and follows Charlie's instructions. He finds the diamond, but he is caught by Colonel Saab and his men.

Colonel Saab wants to turn Ponga in to the police, but Renu pleads with him to forgive Ponga for her sake. Colonel Saab agrees, but on one condition – Ponga must find a job and support his family. Ponga agrees, and with the help of his friend, he lands a job as a salesman.

The rest of the story follows Ponga as he tries to keep his promise and support his family. He faces several challenges at work, but he learns to adapt and overcome them. Meanwhile, Renu's stepmother tries to create misunderstandings between Ponga and Renu, but they are able to clear them up.

In the end, Ponga is able to win over Colonel Saab's trust and love, and he marries Renu with his family's blessing.

Ponga Pandit is a lighthearted film that combines comedy, drama, and romance. The film's music, composed by Laxmikant-Pyarelal, is catchy and memorable. The performances by the lead actors are charming and entertaining, and the film's message of the importance of hard work and responsibility is still relevant today.
