Protection is a 2001 crime thriller directed by John Flynn and starring Stephen Baldwin, Peter Gallagher, and Aron Tager. The film follows Ted King (Baldwin), a former police officer turned private investigator who is hired by a wealthy businessman, Robert Malone (Gallagher), to protect him from some unknown threat. The movie opens with a scene of Malone in a conversation with his daughter, Amy (Marnie McPhail). Malone seems to be worried about something, and he tells Amy that he has hired a private detective to help him. Amy is surprised and asks her father why he doesn't just tell the police. Malone responds by saying that he doesn't trust the police.

Soon, Ted King arrives at Malone's mansion to start his job. Malone shows him around the house and tells him that he has hidden security cameras everywhere. Malone also introduces Ted to his wife, Sheila (Kim Cattrall). Ted thinks she looks familiar, but he can't place her.

As Ted settles into his job and starts to investigate, he discovers that Malone is involved in some shady business dealings with the Russian mafia. Malone is trying to launder money through his legitimate businesses, and it seems that someone is threatening to expose his dealings.

As Ted gets deeper into the investigation, he starts to unravel some of the truths about Malone's family. He discovers that Sheila is actually Malone's ex-wife, and they had divorced ten years ago. Sheila is still living in the mansion with Malone, but she is not happy. Ted starts to suspect that Sheila might be the one behind the threats to Malone.

Meanwhile, Malone's daughter, Amy, is kidnapped by the Russian mafia. They demand a ransom from Malone, but he refuses to pay, saying that it will expose his illegal activities. Ted offers to help rescue Amy and is joined by his old police partner, Lou Dobb (Aron Tager).

The rescue mission takes Ted and Lou to a warehouse, where they engage in a gunfight with the Russian mafia. The rescue is successful, but Ted and Lou are wounded. Ted is taken to the hospital, where he decides to resign from the case.

In the hospital, Ted meets Sheila. She reveals to him that Malone had actually been physically abusing her for years, and she had stayed silent because she didn't want to expose him. She also tells Ted that she had been the one behind the threats to Malone because she wanted to scare him into confessing his crimes.

The movie ends with Ted waking up in the hospital and deciding to go back to work for Malone. He reminds Malone that he can't trust anyone, not even his own wife, and that he needs to change his ways if he wants to protect his family.

Protection is a suspenseful movie that keeps the audience hooked until the very end. The performances by Stephen Baldwin and Peter Gallagher are excellent, and the storyline is full of twists and turns. The movie's climax, set in a dark warehouse, is action-packed and thrilling, and the character development of Ted and Sheila is nuanced and complex. Overall, Protection is a must-watch for fans of crime thrillers.
