To tell his life story, he hires hack novelist Michael King who is well known for his dime store sex novels and not his great literary work. Gilbert has had to go into exile in Malta to escape those who would do him harm, but not even Malta can protect him. While King and Gilbert are working on Gilbert's memoirs, Gilbert goes missing and is later found dead. Now King has to improvise to stay alive or else he could be next.
