Rangoon is a period drama set in India during the Second World War. The film revolves around the lives of three main characters - Julia, played by Kangana Ranaut, Nawab Malik, played by Saif Ali Khan, and Jamadar Nawajuddin, played by Shahid Kapoor. The story begins with Julia, a popular actress, who is sent to entertain the troops at the India-Burma border. While on her way, she meets Nawab Malik, who is a wealthy film producer and also an army officer. Nawab is fascinated by Julia and enlists her in his next production. Julia, who is already in a committed relationship, is initially hesitant but eventually agrees to star in the film.

Amidst all this, there is a subplot involving Jamadar Nawajuddin, who is a soldier in the British Indian Army. He is torn between his loyalty to the British and his love for his country which is fighting for independence. His character adds a layer of complexity to the story and reflects the political climate of the time.

As the production of the film progresses, Julia and Nawab's relationship deepens, and they fall in love. However, their relationship is short-lived, as Nawab is called back to the front lines of the war. Meanwhile, Jamadar Nawajuddin is entrusted with the responsibility of escorting Julia to safety. Along the way, they encounter numerous obstacles, and their journey becomes a battle for survival.

Rangoon boasts of stunning cinematography, capturing the picturesque landscapes of India and Burma. The film is also packed with action sequences, showcasing the brutality of war. The chemistry between the lead actors is palpable, and each of them delivers a noteworthy performance. Kangana Ranaut shines as Julia, and her character's evolution from carefree actress to a woman torn between love and duty is commendable. Saif Ali Khan, as Nawab Malik, displays his acting prowess, and his character's love for Julia expresses a vulnerability that is rarely seen in his other roles. Shahid Kapoor, as Jamadar Nawajuddin, delivers a restrained performance that captures the character's inner turmoil.

However, the film is not without its flaws. The love triangle between the lead characters feels forced and predictable, and the subplots involving supporting characters are not adequately fleshed out. The climax of the film is also abrupt and unsatisfying, leaving the audience with a sense of disappointment.

Overall, Rangoon is an ambitious film that attempts to capture the political climate of India during the Second World War. While it falls short in certain areas, it still manages to be an engaging watch, thanks to the stunning visuals and powerful performances by the lead cast.

Rangoon is a 2017 action movie with a runtime of 2 hours and 34 minutes. It has received moderate reviews from critics and viewers, who have given it an IMDb score of 5.6.
