Red Heat is a 1988 American action-comedy movie directed by Walter Hill and produced by Lawrence Gordon. The film stars Arnold Schwarzenegger as Captain Ivan Danko, a Soviet police officer who is sent to the United States to track down a Russian drug dealer. Jim Belushi plays Chicago police detective Art Ridzik, who is reluctantly assigned to assist Danko in his investigation. The two law enforcement officers form an unlikely partnership as they pursue the elusive criminal across the streets of Chicago.

The movie opens with a glimpse into the Russian underworld, where a notorious drug lord named Viktor Rosta (Ed O'Ross) is pursued by police officers led by Danko. Rosta manages to escape and flees to the United States. Danko is determined to bring Rosta to justice, and heads to Chicago to continue his investigation. Upon his arrival in the U.S., Danko is introduced to Ridzik, who is assigned as his liaison. The two do not get along at first, due to their contrasting personalities and methods.

The contrast between the two officers is evident from the start, with Danko being the disciplined and stoic Soviet officer, while Ridzik is a loose cannon, known for bending the rules to get the job done. The dynamic between the two is the heart of the movie, as they try to put aside their differences and work together to capture Rosta. Danko is initially dismissed by Ridzik as a cold, unfeeling robot who follows orders without question. However, as the two spend more time together, they begin to understand each other better, and grow to respect each other's methods.

The chase for Rosta takes Danko and Ridzik all over Chicago, from seedy underground bars, to posh high-rise hotels, and even a police station. The action is constant, with car chases, shootouts, and hand-to-hand combat aplenty. It is during one of these showdowns that Ridzik learns that Rosta has a hidden stash of drugs that he plans to sell on the black market. With this information, Danko and Ridzik race to find the location of the drugs, knowing that it is their only chance to catch Rosta.

As the investigation draws to a close, Danko and Ridzik locate Rosta's hideout, leading to a final showdown. The climax of the movie is an explosive battle that takes place in an abandoned steel mill. Danko and Ridzik face Rosta and his henchmen in a brutal fight for survival. The finale is filled with bullet-riddled action, explosions, and intense fight choreography that will keep the audience on the edge of their seats until the final credits.

Overall, Red Heat is a thrilling action-comedy that showcases Arnold Schwarzenegger at his best. The movie is fast-paced and exciting, with plenty of action and humor to keep audiences entertained. Schwarzenegger and Belushi have great chemistry together, and their on-screen partnership provides much of the movie's charm. Red Heat is a must-watch for fans of the action genre and is a classic example of the '80s buddy cop formula.

Red Heat is a 1988 action movie with a runtime of 1 hour and 44 minutes. It has received moderate reviews from critics and viewers, who have given it an IMDb score of 6.1 and a MetaScore of 61.
