In 2014, the science fiction action movie, RoboCop, was released, starring Joel Kinnaman as the titular character. The movie is a remake of the 1987 film of the same name, but with a modern twist. The movie was directed by José Padilha and produced by Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer in collaboration with Columbia Pictures. Gary Oldman and Michael Keaton co-starred in the movie, along with Abbie Cornish and Samuel L. Jackson in supporting roles.

The movie is set in the fictional city of Detroit in the year 2028, where crime has reached an all-time high. In an attempt to combat this problem, a multinational conglomerate, Omnicorp, strives to create a robotic police force to replace human officers. However, public opinion is against the use of robots for law enforcement. In an attempt to change this, Omnicorp CEO Raymond Sellars (played by Keaton) enlists the help of Dr. Dennett Norton (played by Oldman) to create a cyborg-human hybrid that would be more appealing to the public.

This is where RoboCop comes in. After police officer, Alex Murphy (Kinnaman), is critically injured in a car bomb attack, his wife and son plead with Norton to save his life. Norton sees this as an opportunity to use Murphy as a test subject for his cyborg-human hybrid project. Murphy is transformed into a sleek, black suit-wearing cyborg that is far more powerful and efficient than any human officer.

Initially, Murphy struggles with his new identity as RoboCop. He experiences flashes of his past life and is plagued with questions of his humanity. Norton and Sellars try to shut down these emotions to make RoboCop more effective in the field, but their attempts are ultimately futile. Murphy seeks to balance his duties as a police officer with his desire to reconnect with his family and reclaim his humanity.

Meanwhile, a group of corrupt police officers led by Lieutenant Rick Mattox (played by Jackie Earle Haley) plot to take down RoboCop and preserve their corrupt ways. They hack into his system and try to exploit his weaknesses. However, Murphy, with the help of his partner, Jack Lewis (played by Michael K. Williams), outmaneuvers them and brings them to justice.

The story provides a commentary on the dangers of sacrificing humanity for the sake of efficiency and the importance of human connection in maintaining our moral compass. The characters are well-developed and the performances are strong, especially from Kinnaman, Oldman, and Keaton. The movie also has plenty of action scenes and special effects to keep the audience engaged throughout.

Despite its compelling story and strong performances, the movie did not receive overwhelmingly positive reviews. Some criticized it for its lack of originality and failure to live up to the standards set by the original 1987 film. Others found fault with the pacing and tone of the film. Nonetheless, the movie is still an entertaining watch for fans of the sci-fi genre and those looking for an action-packed adventure.

Overall, RoboCop from 2014 is a modern take on a classic story that provides a fresh perspective on the dangers of replacing humans with machines. It provides plenty of action, solid performances, and a compelling story that is sure to entertain fans of the genre.

RoboCop is a 2014 science fiction movie with a runtime of 1 hour and 57 minutes. It has received moderate reviews from critics and viewers, who have given it an IMDb score of 6.1 and a MetaScore of 52.
