The American film School Daze is based on the experience of the writer of the film Spike Lee, his experiences during his days in University. It focused on the existence of fraternal social organizations in Universities such as fraternities and sororities, the problems and challenges associated with being a member of these groups, the confrontations that came up between and among members in relation to issues like racism. It all starts and centers on the life of a student known as Vaughn Dunlap who was very much aware and involved in politics. He was enrolled in one of the Universities in the area which was an all black University and considered unsuitable for studies due to the inefficiency of the administration of the school. Vaughn was the leader of a series of anti-apartheid demonstrations where he inspired and convinced students to join and make their voices heard. The main conflicts that this generated were that they as University students were considered more privileged by other boys in town who were not going to school. As such, they always got into fights. Vaughn always had quarrels with Julian who was the leader of another fraternity group on campus known as the Gamma Fraternity. The members of this group were always organizing parties and football matches on weekends. This group had the female adjunct group which was known as the Gamma rays. The ladies in this group were characterized by slim figures, and they were very troublesome and practiced a lot of racism. They attacked other ladies especially those of a different skin color, or hair color. The film was written and directed by Spike Lee who got his inspiration about the film from his days as student.
