Cheyenne Social Club is a western starring Jimmy Stewart and Henry Fonda and directed by Gene Kelly. John O Hanlon and Harley Sullivan are older cowboys working in Texas in the late 1800s. John receives a letter from an attorney notifying him he has inherited a business from his brother. He is hoping that life may start to be easier for him, so he and Harley head to Wyoming to look at his inheritance. When they arrive in Cheyenne, John finds out he has inherited a brothel near the railroad. John really doesn’t to run a brothel, so he makes plans to turn the business into a boarding house. The lawyer informs him if he does that, he will have to turn the business over to the railroad. So if he doesn’t run the business as a brothel, he has nothing. The citizens are happy about this because they love the business. Trouble sets in when a citizen assaults one of the girls, played by Shirley Jones. John goes after him, challenges him to a gunfight, and John kills him. The Sheriff warns John and Harley that the man is a Bannister, a family that will come to town for revenge. John is left on his own because the Sheriff has business elsewhere. Harley has decided to go back to Texas but meets the Bannisters and decides to return to help John. John and Jenny defend the Club, with Harley’s help. The town holds a celebration at the local saloon, but the Sheriff returns to tell John and Harley that twenty to thirty of the Markstones, Bannister cousins, are coming to town. Once again, the Sheriff would like to be of help, but he has to leave town for business. John feels it is time to leave and signs the club over to Jenny, and John and Harley start back to Texas.
