Gigot is a mute man living out a meager existence as a janitor in a Paris apartment building, the kind hearted Gigot is abused and bullied by those around him, but remains a caring soul. A chance meeting with the homeless Colette and her daughter Nicole change his life forever when Gigot attempts to help them and becomes close to Nicole. Gigot's love of Nicole is preyed upon by Colette, who demands the janitor provides a better standard of living if they are to stay with him.
