The Guilt Trip is about a mother and son that take a cross-country road trip. The cross-country trip was very unanticipated. Already on the road, Andrew, a scientist, played by Seth Rogen, decides to stop along the way at his mother's house. They both leave the house and continue on the cross-country trip together. The duo is going on the road trip so that Andrew can promote the organic cleaning product he developed. The adventure takes a lot of twists and turns. There are a lot of zany moments they share along the way. While checking in to a hotel, the desk clerk mistakes Andrew is dating a cougar. He embarrasses Andrew by pointing at her and then winking at Andrew. Mom, played by Barbara Streisand, is a little overbearing. She is upset that there is a great deal of distance between them. Andrew lives on the west coast and she lives on the east coast. She does not believe in boundaries and Andrew is yearning for them. He would love some boundaries. Andrew shows fear that he will never be able to institute the boundaries. Andrew shows much growth. He learns about himself in the process. Andrew learns that a dose of a little love and patience may be the answer to his problem. As they move along of course some kind of adventure happens at every stop. Mom is trying her best to rebuild the relationship with her son. Due to the fact that she is very thrifty, she tries to eat a four-pound steak within an hour. If she can accomplish the feat her dinner is free. She also opted for a compact car when they started the trip, when the better option would have been an SUV. There are no limits for her when it comes to building a fulfilling, loving relationship with her son. Mom gives Andrew some sensible advice that helps him turn around his lackluster career.
