The Red Tent

"Forget everything you've ever heard about heroes. Now there is "The Red Tent.""

This biographical film tells the true story of the doomed expedition of the Airship Italia on its second trip to the North Pole. Starring Sean Connery as Roald Amundsen and Peter Finch as Umberto Nobile, the man behind the decision to take the airship to the North Pole. The movie begins many years after the crash of the airship and the rescue mission that cost the lives of many as they bid to find Nobile and his crew. Nobile is an aging man who is fixated on the problems caused by the failure of the Airship Italia and the following rescue attempt. In the comfort of his home, Nobile imagines a jury convened to judge him on his actions surrounding the airship disaster. In turn, those who were affected by his actions and the disaster make their way to his home and testify about the events of the disaster and how they personally affected them. Amongst those is Amundsen, who relates the story of his death as he raced across the Arctic in a bid to come to the rescue of Nobile.
